About Us

The East Bay Asian Youth Center (EBAYC) is dedicated to inspiring young people to be life-long builders of a just and compassionate multi-cultural society.

EBAYC believes that when neighborhoods support the healthy development of children, youth, and families, young people will grow to be safe, smart, and socially responsible.

EBAYC works to transform under-resourced neighborhoods that have a large population of Asian families into vibrant communities that support the positive development of all young people. We do this by developing transformative relationships with young people; building a lifetime continuum of high-quality support services for children, youth, and families; and organizing families to create positive community change.

EBAYC works to reach hard-to-reach youth and young adults (probation, parole, gang-involved, street work, school drop-outs) by providing intensive long-term case management. We work to develop transformative relationships with young people to facilitate their readiness to change. We help young people re-enter school; obtain employment; access physical and mental health services; complete community service and restitution requirements; and participate in life skills education.

EBAYC works to improve the quality of education for all young people by organizing partnerships that help transforms neighborhood schools into a "Community School". Our Community Schools initiative: 1) provides young people after-school academic support and summer enrichment education; 2) support services, including after-school & summer learning programs, medical & mental health services, attendance & discipline case management, and parent education & family economic support services; 1) supporting parents to be effective advocates for their children and 3) engaging parents and students to inspire and lead school improvement.

EBAYC supports families to lead community efforts to improve their schools and their neighborhood. Parents and young people have successfully organized to win the expansion of neighborhood-based pre-school, after-school, and summer programs; construction renovation of schools, schoolyards, parks, and pedestrian corridors; and creation of new affordable housing and employment opportunities for neighborhood residents.

EBAYC serves a multi-racial, multi-ethnic, and multilingual membership of over 3,000 young people. EBAYC is led by a governing board, with the vast majority of members being youth and parents we serve.

EBAYC was founded in 1976.
