First Choice for Women of Anderson and Madison County

Every day First Choice for Women has the opportunity to make a difference in the lives of our clients and their unborn babies. We do this by serving those in Delaware County who are facing an unintended pregnancy. Each year several hundred young women or couples come to us because they're afraid they are pregnant. Our goal is to support and empower women by supplying free pregnancy test, ultrasound pregnancy confirmations, and life-affirming, medically accurate information for managing their pregnancy. It's been our experience that women who have adequate and accurate information, most will choose life for their baby. 

We also have Parent Care, a mentoring program at First Choice for Women. The program promotes good parenting skills and personal responsibility while providing for practical material needs that might not otherwise be met. Parents, or soon to be parents, come in about every week to meet with their Parent Care mentor. They earn “Baby Bucks" for attending the sessions and for completing their homework, which can be used in our Parent Care Store to “purchase" cribs, car seats, clothes, and diapers. 

First Choice for Women is proactive in seeking to help teenagers prevent unintended pregnancies. Our paid and volunteer instructors go into public schools and youth organization to and present a sexual risk avoidance/abstinence curriculum called Creating Positive Relationships (CPR). CPR is offered completely free of charge to multiple school systems and youth organizations within Delaware County. The CPR course focuses on fostering the development of good decision making skills in all areas of the students' lives, including sexual behavior. Some of the topics covered in the program include: goal setting, respecting oneself and others, planning for dating, setting safe limits for physical affection, and resisting peer pressure. From these topics abstinence is taught as “saving all sexual relations until marriage." First Choice for Women believes that educating our young people is a crucial step in preventing unintended pregnancies.
