Suraj Patel is running a progressive campaign for congress in NY's 12th district.
Over 100,000 New Yorkers voted in the 2020 Democratic primary election. And even in the middle of a pandemic – our campaign received the most votes of any primary challenger in New York history. While we fell short of winning by less than 3% there were over 12,000 votes that were never counted and 30,000 ballots that never arrived – and our opponent was silent as New Yorkers were disenfranchised while we went to court to fight to make sure every vote was counted.
Democracy is under attack across our country. And it’s clear we must fight not just against Republicans, but even Democrats like Congresswoman Carolyn Maloney, who seek to exploit the system for their own reelection. Suraj believes that voters should choose their politicians, not that politicians should choose their voters.
