About Us

FVA was created in 1990 during preparatory meetings held in Manaus for UNDP’s Eco-92 meeting. FVA was the first environmental NGO established in the Amazonas State and one of the only local NGOs that have national presence in regards to environmental and not-for-profit policies. FVA has been working for over 25 year to improve the management of large-scale protected areas as well the sustainable development of rio the Negro basin. FVA also has an Institutional Development Program focused on the organization’s efficiency and sustainability. In sum, our work has 3 main objectives: 1) to improve rio negro’s geopolitics by qualifying public policies and decision making processes regarding the creation and implementation of protected areas and the use of natural resources; 2) to develop the human capacity needed to implement these protected areas and territorial planning; and 3) to maximize the opportunities derived from this scenario to the local population.
