Brandeis University Teacher Education Program

About Us

Brandeis offers a 13-month intensive Masters of Arts in Teaching + teaching license at the secondary and elementary levels. It is a small, cohort-based program that includes a full-year internship plus the opportunity to earn a supplementary certification in Special Education or Teaching English Language Learners. The program focuses on four themes: Teaching for Social Justice; Teaching for Understanding; Teaching All Learners; and Teaching as Inquiry.

In short, we seek to prepare teachers who value and leverage students' 'funds of knowledge': who students are, what they know, and how they think. Brandeis teachers learn to scaffold and support learning so that, ultimately, it is the students who are responsible for the bulk of the intellectual work done in the classroom. This is work that is not merely in service of social justice but that empowers students to act upon issues of equity and justice.
