Akola

Akola, meaning “she works”, is a social enterprise with the vision of empowering women in need to transform their lives and communities and a ten-year track record of success. Akola’s mission is met through a hybrid model of two organizations:

1) Akola Public Benefit Corporation. A luxury hand-made jewelry brand that creates living-wage jobs for women in crisis in Uganda. Akola Jewelry is sold in US national retail stores including Neiman Marcus, Saks Fifth Avenue and Nordstrom. Its mission is to be the leading luxury impact brand utilizing world-class manufacturing, offering living wage employment to women and giving them a pathway out of poverty.

2) Akola Academy. A 501(c)3 nonprofit that provides cutting-edge programs and services to women in crisis with the mission of empowering them to leverage economic opportunity and create holistic restoration. Akola Academy programs wrap-around living wage employment opportunities in order to transform them into vehicles for sustainable poverty alleviation.
