Why Tech is an international social enterprise dedicated to reducing poverty and promoting socially and ecologically sustainable innovation, cultural understanding and building productive relationships between India, Indonesia and the United States. Rather than focusing on implementing Hi-Tech solutions, we focus on whYtech. whYtech solutions are ones that answer the question of Why relationships are out of balance, or Why system inequalities exist, Why are there obstacles standing in the way of transformative change, and what appropriateTech-knowledgy is required to address these issues.

We prefer to use the term Tech-knowledgy because we believe that knowledge of local cultural belief systems, values and customs define what Technology and what solutions are appropriate.

Why Tech connects non profits, social enterprises and schools in the United States, India and Indonesia with skilled young professionals from around the United States and around the world. Why Tech works through hand-picked, local partners with proven success in creating social change and addressing the economic, social and environmental challenges of the poor and marginalized in India and Indonesia through a variety of methods. Why Tech seeks to build a committed network of talented community leaders and social entrepreneurs around the world, in order to mobilize human and financial resources to establish creative and sustainable solutions to poverty reduction. It also seeks to tell and share stories about sustainable innovations and organizations that are catalyzing social change in India and Indonesia.

Why Tech also consults with non profits and social enterprise in developing programs, facilitating creativity, and leveraging human and financial resources.

VISION

Why Tech envisions a more connected world in which cultural understanding, sustainable innovation and international collaboration are the engines that drive the reduction of poverty, social injustice and environmental degradation. To realize this vision, Why Tech is guided by the following 5 part mission:

MISSION

1) To send talented individuals to US, India and Indonesia to conduct internships and research in innovative non-profits and social enterprises which address the economic, social and environmental causes of poverty;

2) To provide consultation, IT, business development and technical support to, America, Indian and Indonesian non-profits and social enterprises which promote and support social entrepreneurs as a means of reducing poverty.

3) To create and lead new types of learning and living experiences that expose people from all over the world to the amazing sustainable innovations that are creating social change in India and Indonesia, and as a result contribute to greater awareness about the poverty related issues facing these countries.

4) To document, expose, tell and share the stories of sustainable innovations that are catalyzing social change and reducing poverty in United States, India and Indonesia while.

5) To foster cultural understanding developing a strong network of program alumni and organizations dedicated to working together to reduce poverty and advance international understanding and goodwill in and between, United States, India and Indonesia.
