Devie

Devie is a social enterprise with the mission to support every parent to help their child grow. Our vision is that every child starts school and life with an equal chance for success, and that every parent feels confident and satisfied in their ability to provide their child with this start. The impact we want to have, is to close the primary school readiness gap between children from low income and more affluent families.

We do this through Devie, a digital coach that supports every parent to help their child grow through daily automated chats. Devie's chats use behavioral insights to help parents of children under five to develop the positive parenting habits that we know will improve their confidence and their children's outcomes.

Our Values

• Empathy- We firmly believe that every parent is doing their best. We approach every conversation with this understanding, and never judge.
• Equity- Any support we provide needs to be accessible to every parent no matter their income level, language, technological literacy etc. We go the extra mile to ensure that Devie is available, accessible, and useful to every parent that needs it. 
• Evidence- Anything parents see and interact with on Devie is based on the Early Years Foundation Stage and verified early childhood development research. Making research comprehensible and actionable to parents is one of our reasons for being.
• Ethics- We are transparent and clear with users about who sees Devie data, and how it’s used. We take safeguarding of parents and children seriously.

Who We Are

We are a former child welfare researcher and early childhood teacher who are passionate about supporting children and families.

Laura White

Laura is an early childhood educator. Prior to starting Devie, Laura taught three and four year-olds for the District of Columbia Public Schools in the U.S. She also has a master’s degree in early childhood special education and has taught a preschool autism intervention class, and an MBA from the University of Oxford.

Puja Balachander

Puja is a user researcher and product designer. Prior to working on Devie, Puja worked in the Obama Administration, the City of Austin, and the World Bank to design policies, products, and services that improved outcomes for vulnerable children and families across the world including India, Madagascar, and the US. She has BA in International Development from American University, and an MBA from the University of Oxford.
