Issue No. 28

An illustration of a yellow piece of ruled paper with the words, ''Three or Four Things: Expert tips and useful resources for your social-impact career, delivered to your inbox''

Hi there,

If you’re like me, something about settling into a new year gets you itching to take on a challenge. There are plenty of big things you can do, but here in Idealist Career Advice land, switching sectors feels like the biggest! If you’re considering a switch into the social-impact space, you’ll want to start by educating yourself on what exactly that means; our post on how to ease into social-impact work is a great first step. A lot of people are surprised at how nuanced and challenging a career in the nonprofit sector can be, so you’ll want to be well informed.

For those of you already working in the sector and looking for your own shake up, a new job or even a new project can do the trick. Whatever you’re diving into, proper preparation can be the difference between finding that long-term perfect fit or jumping into something you weren’t quite ready to take on.

People tend to think February is for love birds.

But we’ve decided to expand on that just a bit and make February the month for the love of birds! Here are some jobs for all of you bird lovers out there (and for the love birds, too!)

Compliance and Reporting Administrator, Chesapeake Conservancy, Maryland

Head of Development, iNaturalist, Remote

Regional Field Director, Sierra Club, Remote

Senior Associate, HRIS and Payroll, National Audubon Society, Washington DC

Wildlife Policy Specialist, National Wildlife Federation Headquarters, Louisiana, Remote

As always, if you have questions or feedback about any of the resources shared in this edition, I’m here for all of it. And if you have your own social-impact story to share—job hunting, volunteering, professional developing, or otherwise—we encourage that too! Respond directly to this newsletter or send me a message at alexis_p@idealist.org.

Here’s to your success!
