    Description

Retired Teachers – Your Time Still Teaches

You spent years guiding, listening, encouraging, and showing up for others.

    That doesn’t stop at retirement.

Hospice patients are often looking for the same things students needed from you:

someone patient, kind, and willing to listen.

As a hospice volunteer, you might:

Sit and talk with a patient

    Listen to life stories

Read aloud or look through photo albums

    Play simple games

    Offer calm companionship and presence

Your teaching experience can be especially meaningful when working with patients who have limited speech or are nonverbal, such as those who have had a stroke. Your ability to read cues, be patient, and communicate in different ways can bring comfort and connection.

No medical experience is needed. Just the same skills you’ve always had:

patience, compassion, and the ability to connect.

Volunteers set their own schedules and choose the patients they visit. Most visits are about one hour per week.
