Language Access & Translation Coordinator
Details
Description
Purpose of the role
Help Safe Haven Space make programs welcoming and understandable for families by ensuring participants can access information in their preferred language.
Core responsibilities
- Translate written materials (announcements, forms, reminders, short guides) into Spanish or another language commonly spoken in the Northern Virginia region
- Provide live interpretation support during occasional meetings, workshops, or orientations when needed
- Review communications to flag language clarity or cultural context concerns
- Help staff choose the right tone and wording for multilingual audiences
- Maintain organized translated versions of frequently used materials
- Identify when professional interpretation may be required for sensitive situations
- Advise leadership on improving language accessibility across programs
What success looks like
Participants clearly understand what programs are, how to attend, and what to expect without relying on others to interpret for them.
Who this is a good fit for
Someone fluent in English and Spanish or another language widely spoken in Northern Virginia (for example Amharic, Arabic, Dari, Pashto, Ukrainian, or Farsi) who is comfortable communicating across cultures and can translate meaning, not just words. Experience helping community members navigate services, schools, or programs is helpful but not required.
