🌼 About the Opportunity
Do you have a heart for helping others, but a busy school-year schedule? Our Break-Time Volunteer Program offers meaningful, flexible service opportunities during Spring Break, Summer Break, Fall Break, Winter Break, and holiday breaks.
This short-term, high-impact volunteer option provides essential caregiver relief and patient companionship, giving families moments of rest and supporting patients with comfort and connection.
You don’t need any medical background—just compassion, reliability, and the willingness to sit with someone who needs a friendly presence.
💛 Volunteer Roles
Break-time volunteers can choose from several meaningful ways to serve:
👵 Patient Companionship
Sit with patients, read aloud, share music, offer conversation, or simply provide calming presence. Even one hour helps caregivers rest, run errands, or recharge.
🌿 Caregiver Relief Visits
Provide short “respite breaks” so caregivers can step away with peace of mind. Volunteers may visit in homes or assisted living facilities.
✨ Legacy & Comfort Activities
Help create legacy projects, write letters, assemble comfort kits, or assist with gentle activities like art, crafting, and storytelling.
🌼 Optional Special Projects
Available during longer breaks:
- Seasonal craft projects
- Preparing volunteer materials for patient support
- Group volunteer days (great for friends or campus groups!)
🎓 Who This Is Perfect For
This program is designed specifically for:
- College students with availability only during Spring Break, Summer, Thanksgiving Break, or Winter Break

To ensure all volunteers are prepared and able to safely support patients and families, all interested applicants must complete the following steps:
📋 1. Complete Volunteer Onboarding
All volunteers—whether serving in person or remotely—must complete our onboarding process, which includes:
- Volunteer application
- Background check (provided at no cost)
- TB screening (required for patient-facing roles)
- Online orientation modules
- A brief interview or phone conversation to discuss your interests and availability
This process ensures you feel confident, supported, and ready to make a meaningful impact.
🌐 2. Remote Opportunities Are Available (Especially for Breaks!)
For students or individuals who are only available during school breaks, we offer remote service options, including:
- Writing letters or encouragement cards for patients and caregivers
- Virtual legacy project prep (creating memory materials, journals, or craft templates)
- Assembling comfort kits or activity bags from home
- Virtual volunteer meetings or reflection sessions
- Support tasks for volunteer services that can be done online
Remote roles are ideal for volunteers who:
- Live out of town during the school year
- Don’t have transportation
- Want to contribute from home
- Prefer a flexible schedule during breaks
📅 3. Seasonal (Break-Time) Volunteers
If you plan to serve only during Spring Break, Summer, Fall Break, or Winter Break, we will:
- Complete your onboarding before your break begins
- Match you with short-term or one-time projects
- Offer both in‑person and remote options
- Work around your school schedule
- Keep you on our active roster for future breaks if you choose to return
🤝 4. Commitment Expectations
Break-time volunteers are not required to commit year-round, but they must:
- Communicate their availability window
- Complete onboarding in advance
- Show reliability for any scheduled visits or assignments
- Maintain confidentiality and uphold patient dignity
Even one shift or one project each break makes a significant difference to families we serve.
