    Description

Help provide the first step toward hope and healing for victims of violent or sexual crimes

The Victim Center's Volunteer Victim Advocates provide services over the phone to crime victims and their families in Southwest Missouri through our 24-hour crisis line that include: crisis intervention, safety planning, support, community referral information, etc. There are occasions when you may need to meet with a vicitm in person at the hospital or a secure location with law enforcement. Volunteers are asked to commit to covering two to four call shifts per month and to attend a bi-monthly Volunteer Victim Advocate meeting. Since we are providing services over the phone, calls are routed to you at home from an answering service.

Applicants must be at least 21 years old (or close to it), complete an application, interview, national background check, have a phone (since we provide volunteer service over the phone), reference checks, training, and monthly meeting.

Volunteer victim advocate trainings are held approximately every 7-8 weeks. The training is typically held on a Saturday and lasts about 8 hours. You must attend the entire training and complete a Mandatory Reporter training that is offered online.
