    Communications Coordinator (Volunteer)

    Organization: A Free Bird | 501(c)(3) Nonprofit

    Location: Remote

    Commitment: 5–10 hours per week | Minimum 3–6 month commitment

    About Us

    A Free Bird is a nonprofit organization dedicated to empowering children diagnosed with cancer through artistic expression. Through storytelling, creative programming, and multimedia outreach, we help children explore art, music, writing, and performance as tools for healing and self-expression.

    Position Overview

    We are seeking a Communications Coordinator to support the Communications Department in executing internal and external communication strategies across Marketing and Public Relations teams.

    This role works closely with department leadership to help implement communication plans, maintain consistency across messaging, and support organizational goals through effective coordination and execution.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Support the implementation of communications strategies across Marketing and PR teams
    • Assist in developing and maintaining department policies and communication procedures
    • Coordinate communication between Marketing, PR, and organizational leadership
    • Help ensure messaging consistency across digital platforms and outreach materials
    • Assist in tracking communication initiatives and departmental progress
    • Support volunteer engagement and internal communication efforts
    • Conduct research to support communication planning and best practices
    • Help maintain organized documentation of communications workflows and materials

    Qualifications

    • Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Marketing, Public Relations, or related field (or equivalent experience)
    • 2+ years of experience in communications, marketing, PR, or related roles
    • Strong written and verbal communication skills
    • Familiarity with digital communication tools and platforms
    • Strong organizational and multitasking abilities
    • Ability to work collaboratively in a remote team environment
    • Professional, detail-oriented, and dependable work style

    • Must have access to a computer and reliable internet connection
    • Occasional virtual meetings required
