    Description

Help us amplify KBI's story across media!

At KBI, we're not just running programs—we're building a movement to democratize STEM education. We're looking for a Volunteer Public Relations Coordinator who understands that strategic media relationships can amplify our impact exponentially and help us reach students and educators who need to know we exist.

This is a role for someone who sees PR as bridge-building between mission and media. Your coordination will help ensure that journalists, influencers, and media outlets recognize KBI as a leader in innovative STEM education.

    What you will do

You will be the voice connecting KBI with media and influencers. This means drafting and distributing press releases that capture our most newsworthy moments, handling media inquiries with professionalism and warmth, building and nurturing relationships with journalists and outlets, pitching compelling stories that showcase our impact, monitoring media coverage and tracking PR metrics, collaborating with marketing teams to align PR with campaigns, attending biweekly virtual meetings to coordinate efforts, and developing media kits that make journalists' jobs easier.

You might be a great fit if

You have a knack for identifying what makes a story newsworthy. You're comfortable building professional relationships and following up persistently but graciously. You understand both the Greater Bay Area and education/tech media landscapes. You want your PR work to help educational innovation receive the attention and support it deserves.

What you will get out of this

This is a chance to build real media relationships while developing PR strategy and execution skills. You'll gain hands-on experience in press release writing, media pitching, and relationship management while promoting meaningful educational initiatives. You'll see your PR efforts result in media coverage that expands KBI's reach and credibility.

    Why this role matters

Media attention isn't vanity—it's validation that helps parents trust us, students discover us, and funders support us. Without strategic PR, KBI's innovations remain known only to our existing community. Your work ensures our story reaches the audiences who can benefit from and support our mission.
