Volunteer Food Receiving Team

Help make sure rescued food from local grocery partners reaches our neighbors safely and efficiently. As a Food Receiving Team member, you’ll help unload, sort, and store donated food so it is ready for our pantry, senior mobile pantry, and meal-prep programs.

In this role, you will:

• Help receive rescued food deliveries from local grocery partners
• Unload boxes, bags, crates and other donated items from our delivery truck
• Sort food by type and help identify items that need to be refrigerated, frozen, or stored on shelves
• Check donated items for quality, damaged packaging, and expiration or best-by dates, following staff guidance
• Help organize food storage areas so items are safe, accessible, and easy for the team to use
• Move food using carts, dollies, or other available equipment
• Assist with keeping receiving, storage, refrigerator, and freezer areas clean and organized
• Follow food-safety standards, including safe handling, proper food separation, and staff directions for storage

Position requirements

• Able to safely lift and carry up to 50 lbs
• Comfortable bending, reaching, standing, and walking throughout a 2-hour shift
• Able to work in indoor and outdoor areas, including refrigerated or freezer spaces for short periods
• Willing to follow food-safety procedures and staff instructions
• Comfortable working as part of a team in a busy, hands-on environment
• Reliable transportation and dependable attendance
