We welcome volunteers for stays from 2 weeks to 3 months. Volunteers typically participate 4–5 hours per day, Monday to Friday. The schedule is flexible, with weekends free for rest, travel, cultural activities, and exploring Kisumu.

Volunteer to Empower HIV-Affected Women in Tailoring, Kisumu, Kenya

Join our volunteer program in Kisumu, Kenya, where you'll have the opportunity to make a real impact in the lives of HIV-affected women through a transformative tailoring initiative. Volunteers will support women in learning vital skills, from sewing to entrepreneurship, while also helping improve their business and financial literacy. You'll engage in hands-on activities like assisting with sewing, taking photos of products, and contributing creative ideas to enhance designs. Volunteers can also train women on financial management, online marketing, and pricing strategies, empowering them to create sustainable businesses. This program offers a unique chance to not only learn and grow alongside these resilient women but also be part of a lasting social change in a community in need.

Directions

The project site is now located in Mamboleo, Kisumu County, close to Alango Primary School and near Wathorego Bus Stop. The location is easily accessible by local public transport, including matatus, boda bodas, and tuk-tuks. Detailed directions and arrival guidance will be provided once your volunteer placement is confirmed.

Instructions:

When expressing interest, please introduce yourself briefly and tell us what inspires you to volunteer with our community in Kisumu.

Please share any skills or experience you could contribute, such as sewing, fashion design, entrepreneurship, business, bookkeeping, financial literacy, marketing, photography, social media, communications, or other practical skills. Previous professional experience is welcome but not required.

Please also tell us your preferred travel dates, how long you would like to stay, and what you hope to learn or contribute during your placement.

We especially welcome volunteers who are open-minded, respectful, flexible, and interested in genuine cultural exchange. You will be working alongside women from different backgrounds and life experiences, so compassion, patience, willingness to listen, and respect for privacy and dignity are very important.

If you have a CV, portfolio, or examples of relevant work, you are welcome to include them with your Idealist application, but they are not required.
