ABOUT SUNRISE
The Sunrise Day Camps Association, Inc. (Sunrise Association) aims to bring back the joys of childhood to children with cancer and their siblings. As the only provider of free summer day camps for children with cancer and their siblings in the world, we serve over 77,000 children annually between our camps and virtual programs.
THE OPPORTUNITY
Entering our 20th year of operation, we identified 3 key areas of improvement that we hope you will play an integral role in developing: Revamping our Budgeting & Summer Staff hiring projections; Program Data Cleanup & Transparency; National Calendar & Standardized Operational Timeline. This is a builder’s role. You will be helping create the operational assets Sunrise will use for years to come.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Operational Timelines & Planning Tools
- Build comprehensive timelines mapping the full camp-season lifecycle across all 13 sites — pre-season through post-summer wrap-up
- Create reusable milestone calendars and task-sequencing frameworks for annual adoption by leadership and site admins
Data Definition Table & Operational Transparency
- Audit and catalog every active database field: field name, data type, applicable user category, and plain-language description
- Organize as a living reference document; identify redundant or deprecated fields and recommend consolidation
Database Cleanup & Optimization
- Hands-on data hygiene: merge duplicates, resolve orphaned accounts, standardize inconsistent entries, and flag incomplete profiles across 11,000+ records
- Document cleanup procedures and create repeatable checklists so maintenance becomes sustainable, not a one-time project
Budgeting & Staffing Templates
- Design standardized budgeting templates for sites to plan, track, and report seasonal expenses in a consistent format network-wide
- Build staffing tools — role matrices, headcount trackers, hiring timelines — tailored to summer day camp operations
Project Coordination
- Maintain project trackers and deliverable schedules; create version-controlled documentation for every asset produced
WHO YOU ARE
Someone who can plan and execute effectively.
Non-Negotiables
- Relentless attention to detail — your work is clean the first time.
- A systems thinker — you see how pieces connect, where gaps exist, and how to build something that scales.
- Strong communication — you can draft a professional document and send a clear follow-up without hand-holding.
- Self-directed and deadline-driven — you manage your time, flag issues early, and deliver with minimal oversight.
- Basic–intermediate Excel/Sheets proficiency (sorting, filtering, formulas, conditional formatting).
- Mission-driven — you understand why getting the details right matters when children’s data is involved.
What Sets You Apart
- You think outside the box — when a template doesn’t exist, you figure out what it should look like and build it
- Experience with any database/CRM/management platform (Campminder, Salesforce, Airtable, etc.)
- Familiarity with project management tools (Asana, Trello, Gantt charts)
- Prior work in nonprofit ops, camp administration, or program coordination
WHAT YOU GAIN
- Hands-on experience building nationwide operational infrastructure from the ground up
- A portfolio of tangible deliverables: timelines, a data definition table, budgeting/staffing templates, and optimization docs
- Mentorship from nonprofit operations leadership; strong recommendation letter upon completion
- Meaningful contribution to the safety and well-being of thousands of children affected by pediatric cancer
- Potential extension into Fall/Winter for continued project leadership
HOW TO APPLY
- Resume or CV
- Brief cover letter (1 page max) — what draws you to this work and why you’re the right person to build these systems
