Description
We are seeking an experienced and vision-driven Research Lead (Volunteer) to steer our research agenda at the intersection of environmental sustainability, climate action, and legal reform. You will lead the development and publication of white papers, policy briefs, and general academic papers that directly inform our Pre-Trial Justice Project and broader environmental advocacy across Nigeria.
This is a senior volunteer role requiring strong academic rigor, strategic oversight, and the ability to work independently while guiding research outputs to publication standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Strategic Direction: Identify and define topical, frontier issues in Nigerian and global environmental law, climate justice, and pre-trial legal rights.
- Publication Oversight: Lead, edit, and co-author high-impact white papers, policy reports, and academic articles for publication.
- Research Management: Set research standards, establish peer-review processes, and mentor Research Associates to ensure academic integrity and clarity.
- Modern Research Methods: Drive the integration of advanced LLMs (Large Language Models), AI tools, and digital research frameworks alongside traditional academic best practices.
- Strategy & Reporting: Drive key insights during our mandatory 1-hour monthly strategy meeting (held on the last Thursday of every month).
Requirements & Qualifications
- Academic Background: Master’s degree or higher (or a Law degree / LL.B / LL.M) in Law, Environmental Studies, Political Science, Human Rights, or a related social science field.
- Publication History: Proven track record of academic writing, research publications, or legal policy papers.
- AI Integration: Proficiency in leveraging LLMs and research software for literature review, data analysis, and drafting efficiency while maintaining academic integrity and original thought.
- Leadership & Autonomy: High self-sufficiency, strict adherence to deadlines, and the ability to drive projects from concept to publication without micro-management.
- Technical Setup: Resident in Nigeria with reliable electricity, stable high-speed internet, and a working laptop (necessary specialized tools provided).
