    Description

Organization: A Moment of Magic (AMoM)

Location: Fort Worth, TX (Cook Children's Medical Center)

Commitment: 8 Weeks | Approximately 4 Hours Per Week

Volunteer Positions Available: 4–6 Per Cohort

A Moment of Magic is seeking compassionate, reliable volunteers in the Dallas-Fort Worth area to help facilitate our Express, Create, Heal (ECH) program, an innovative psychosocial support initiative for children and adolescents impacted by pediatric cancer and other serious medical conditions. Through art, play, storytelling, and creative expression, ECH helps young people build emotional resilience, process difficult experiences, and connect with peers in a supportive environment.

This opportunity is ideal for students, aspiring healthcare professionals, educators, social workers, child life specialists, artists, and community members who are passionate about supporting children and families facing medical challenges.

    What You'll Do

As an ECH Program Facilitator, you will:

    • Lead and support creative, play-based activities designed to foster emotional wellbeing
    • Build meaningful connections with children and adolescents throughout the 8-week program
    • Help create a safe, welcoming, and inclusive environment
    • Support small group discussions and guided activities
    • Collaborate with fellow volunteers and A Moment of Magic staff
    • Complete brief observational notes and program feedback after each session
    • Participate in volunteer training and ongoing support meetings

    Commitment

We are looking for volunteers who can commit to:

    • One full 8-week program cycle
    • Weekly sessions (approximately 45–60 minutes each)
    • Volunteer preparation, debriefing, and communication
    • Approximately 4 hours per week total
    • Consistent attendance throughout the entire cohort

Because trust and relationship-building are critical to the success of this program, volunteers must be able to attend the majority of sessions during the cycle.

    Preferred Qualifications

We welcome volunteers from all backgrounds. Preference may be given to individuals with experience or interest in:

    • Healthcare, medicine, nursing, psychology, counseling, social work, or child life
    • Education, youth development, or mentoring
    • Art, music, theater, creative writing, or other creative disciplines
    • Pediatric oncology, chronic illness, disability, or mental health advocacy
    • Working with children and adolescents

    What You'll Gain

    • Direct experience supporting medically vulnerable children and families
    • Training in trauma-informed, psychosocial support practices
    • Exposure to pediatric healthcare and nonprofit program delivery
    • Leadership, facilitation, and communication experience
    • Volunteer service hours and professional references (upon successful completion)
    • The opportunity to make a lasting impact on children navigating some of life's most difficult challenges
