    Policy judges signed up for the whole day will check in at 8:00am and judge from 8:30am to 5:30pm. One round can be expected to last two hours.

    Volunteers must complete the New Judge Training either through our self-paced Google Classroom, or set up a live Zoom session with the Volunteer Manager. An in person training can also be coordinated for Corporate Groups.

    Description

    High School Debate Judging Opportunity (No Experience Needed)

    Chicago Debates is offering a stipend for judges that help support our policy debate students. The tournament will be in Albany Park; round 1 is from 8:30am to 10:30am, round 2 is from 10:45am to 12:30pm, round 3 is from 1:20pm to 3:15pm, and round 4 is from 3:30pm to 5:15pm CST. Judges may volunteer for one or multiple rounds.

    Judges will enter their assigned classroom with two teams of two high school debate students, listen to their arguments, take notes, keep track of speech times, pick a winner based on closing arguments, and provide feedback on their verbal skills.

    We pay $25 per round. Previous knowledge of policy debate and the assigned debate topic are not required, we offer Policy Forum Judge Training. Judges give their feedback based on argument construction, not personal beliefs.
