    Reading Connections Community Event & Outreach Volunteer

    Community Event Outreach Volunteer

    Hours: Monday–Friday between 10:00a–5:00p Office Volunteer Time: 6-18hrs per week

    Events Obligation: 6–8 hours per event

    Flexible Event schedule: Monday-Friday, Evening/Weekend events as needed

    • May include time in both Greensboro and High Point locations

    Time Commitment: Minimum six-month commitment to flexible based on your availability.

    Position Summary

    The Community Event & Outreach Volunteer plays a key role in advancing the mission of the Reading Connections Literacy Program Team by expanding our reach across Guildford County. This role supports Program Coordinators and office staff, represents the organization at volunteer fairs and community events, and helps create opportunities that empower adult learners and strengthen our community.

    Volunteer Engagement:

    • Community Engagement: Actively engage with local communities to promote the importance of literacy and the services offered by our nonprofit. Assist in the planning, promotion, and execution of literacy events, workshops, and activities such as training, projects, and storytelling.
    • Outreach and Networking: Identify opportunities to collaborate with schools, libraries, community centers, and other organizations to expand the reach of our literacy programs.
    • Participate in book drives and clean up of the organization's Free Little Library.
    • Resource Distribution: Distribute educational materials, books, and resources to underserved communities and individuals in need.
    • Storytelling and Advocacy: Share personal stories, testimonials, and success stories related to literacy to inspire and motivate others to engage in literacy activities.
    • Social Media and Promotion: Support our organization's social media efforts by sharing updates, event announcements, and success stories to raise awareness and encourage community involvement.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Support coordinators & program staff with identifying and coordinating outreach events, activities and promoting community literacy engagement initiatives.
    • Provide administrative assistance: Phone, email, WhatsApp, and in-person interactions to organizations build positive partnership relationships
    • Community Events assistance: Set up and breakdown of tables, chairs and materials when attending community events
    • Attend events, fairs, outreach networking meetings to connect with both external and internal communities to promote literacy awareness and engagement across diverse populations and spread the mission and purpose of the organization.
    • Represent the organization at volunteer fairs, community events, and other outreach opportunities.
    • Build and maintain positive community partnerships with schools, libraries, and local organizations.

    • Passionate about adult education, literacy, making a positive difference in people's lives through education and community empowerment.
    • Professional, reliable, and able to represent the organization positively in the office and at public events.
    • Enjoy giving back to the community, meeting new people, attending local community events and sharing information about literacy
    • Tabling at community events to educate the Guilford County community and beyond about literacy and Reading Connections
    • Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to connect well with diverse staff, students, and encourage others on how to be involved and join you to Volunteer at Reading Connections
    • Capable of working independently as well as collaboratively in a team environment.
    • Self-motivated, detail-oriented, and able to manage multiple priorities with accuracy and timeliness.
    • Intermediate computer skills; familiarity with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and Google Suite preferred.
