    Description

In Kansas, hospice care plays an important role in healthcare. More than half of Medicare patients who pass away in Kansas receive hospice services, and there are about 85 hospice providers across the state caring for patients in homes, assisted living communities, and nursing facilities.

Hospice volunteers are not just helpful, they are required. Medicare guidelines require hospice programs to have volunteers provide at least 5% of total patient care hours. Volunteers play an important role in making sure patients receive companionship and support.

    What Is Hospice? Volunteer Opportunity

Hospice is specialized care for people living with serious illness who are nearing the final stage of life. The focus of hospice is comfort, dignity, and quality of life. Hospice teams include nurses, aides, social workers, chaplains, and volunteers who support both patients and their families.

Providence Home Health & Hospice serves patients throughout the region. Our hospice team provides care within a 60-mile radius of Wichita, supporting patients in their homes, assisted living communities, and nursing facilities across surrounding counties.

    Volunteer Commitment

Volunteers set own schedule and choose the patients to visit. Typical visits are about one hour per week per patient, but involvement is flexible.

Our Volunteer Coordinator provides training, onboarding, and ongoing support so you will never feel alone in your volunteer journey.
