    About the Role

    We are seeking a skilled and experienced Social Media Manager to join our volunteer team. In this role, you will play a critical part in building and amplifying OpenGov Africa's online presence to grow our civic tech and open governance movement across Africa. You will work closely with our leadership and communications team to develop a bold social media strategy, create compelling content, and engage a growing community of citizens, advocates, and changemakers who believe in transparent and accountable governance.

    Responsibilities

    • Research and identify trending topics, conversations, and opportunities in civic tech, open governance, and African development to inform content strategy
    • Create, edit, and publish clear, engaging, and well-structured content across LinkedIn, Twitter/X, Instagram, Facebook, and YouTube
    • Maintain a monthly social media content calendar to track posting schedules, campaigns, and platform-specific requirements
    • Collaborate with program leads, designers, and volunteer teams to gather impact stories, updates, and supporting visuals for content
    • Monitor and respond to comments, messages, and community interactions across all platforms in a timely and professional manner
    • Help build and maintain a library of reusable content assets including templates, brand graphics, captions, and campaign materials
    • Track and analyse social media performance metrics and stay informed about platform algorithm changes, trends, and best practices in civic tech and open governance

    Qualifications

    • Minimum 2–3 years of demonstrated experience managing social media accounts for an organization, brand, or social cause
    • Excellent written communication and storytelling skills with the ability to adapt tone across platforms and audiences
    • Strong research and analytical abilities, including experience with social media analytics tools
    • Proficiency in graphic design tools (Canva Pro, Adobe Express, Photoshop, or Illustrator) and scheduling platforms
    • Ability to work independently, meet deadlines, and manage a content calendar across multiple platforms
    • Passion for civic technology, transparency, and open governance
    • Experience with nonprofit or social impact organizations is an advantage
    • Video creation and editing skills are an added advantage

    Commitment Details

    • Position Type: Volunteer
    • Time Commitment: 3 hours per day
    • Schedule: Monday – Friday, 9 AM to 12 PM WAT
    • Duration: Minimum 6-month commitment preferred
    • Location: Remote
    • Expectations: Reliable participation, timely content delivery, and consistent communication
