    Description

    About the Program

The mentorship program at Oakland Unity High School, powered by iMentor, supports rising seniors as they prepare for one of the most important transitions of their lives—graduating high school and stepping into college, career, and adulthood.

These students are navigating academic milestones, postsecondary decisions, and big questions about their future. Your mentorship can make a meaningful difference. By offering guidance, encouragement, and perspective, you can help students stay on track academically, build strong postsecondary plans, and move forward with confidence and clarity.

Your support can help them develop career readiness skills, strengthen their sense of belonging, and feel empowered as they take their next steps after graduation.

    Why Mentorship Matters

As a mentor, you’ll help students:

    • Stay organized and on track during senior year
    • Set realistic college and career goals
    • Complete college and financial aid applications
    • Explore career interests and pathways
    • Build confidence in decision-making
    • Navigate the transition from high school to college or career

Senior year is exciting — and overwhelming. Having a consistent, trusted adult in their corner can truly change the trajectory of a student’s future.

    Responsibilities

    • Write to your mentee weekly through iMentor’s secure online platform to build connection and provide encouragement
    • Meet in person once per month at Oakland Unity High School during structured mentor-mentee events
    • Use the platform for guided prompts, secure messaging, and goal setting
    • Commit approximately 4 hours per month throughout the academic year

Ideal Volunteers Will Have (Preferred but Not Required)

    • College graduate or professional experience
    • Strong communication and listening skills
    • A belief in the power of education and mentorship
    • Cultural humility and respect for diverse backgrounds
    • A desire to support first-generation college-bound students

While these qualities are preferred, we welcome anyone who is committed, consistent, and passionate about helping young people succeed.
