The Bagful of Books Sale is a popular Friends of the Library fundraiser where patrons can fill a standard grocery bag or reusable tote with books for a low, flat price of $2 per bag. A wide variety of genres are available, including fiction, nonfiction, children’s, and young adult titles.
Volunteers are essential to ensuring the Bagful of Books Sale runs smoothly and provides a positive experience for all attendees. On the day of the sale, volunteers assist with a variety of tasks throughout the event.
Key responsibilities include helping manage entry and greeting patrons, especially during the early access period for Friends of the Library members. Volunteers may check or sell memberships at the door, answer questions, and provide general directions to shoppers.
Throughout the sale, volunteers help monitor book tables, restock and straighten materials as items are purchased, and keep sections organized for easy browsing. Additional duties include assisting at the checkout area by collecting payments, counting bags, and ensuring a smooth flow of customers.
Volunteers also support crowd management during busy periods, help maintain a clean and safe environment, and assist with light cleanup or breakdown at the end of the event.
