    Description

Gain hands-on experience in global health and women’s empowerment while living and working in a rural community in Uganda.

Join Women in Leadership (WIL Uganda) and support the delivery of sexual and reproductive health education to girls and women — while building real-world experience in international development.

    About the Organisation

Women in Leadership (WIL Uganda) is a grassroots, women-led organisation based in Busembatia, Eastern Uganda.

Our mission: to dismantle inequality and empower women and girls to exercise their rights, build economic independence, and lead within their communities.

    About the Role

As an SRHR Volunteer Intern, you will work alongside our in-country SRHR Coordinator and Village Health Team to deliver education programmes to school-aged girls and local women.

This is not a shadowing role — you will actively contribute to programme delivery and help design and facilitate sessions.

    What You’ll Do

    • Support delivery of SRHR sessions in schools
    • Facilitate workshops with women in local health centres
    • Collaborate with local health workers and community leaders
    • Contribute to session design and programme development
    • Support community outreach and engagement activities

    What You’ll Gain:

    • Practical experience in global health and international development
    • Experience delivering workshops in a community setting
    • Leadership and facilitation skills
    • A professional reference and certificate upon completion
    • Opportunity to gain academic credit (we work with your university)
    • Experience living and working in a rural international context

    Requirements

    • Enrolled in or completed a university degree (relevant field preferred)
    • Interest in global health, gender equality, or international development
    • Strong communication and initiative
    • Willingness to adapt to rural community life
    • Laptop required for placement work

    Programme Duration & Fundraising Model

This is a fundraising-based internship (not a programme fee).

    • 1 month: £1,650
    • 2–3 months: £2,450
    • 6 months: £3,750

    Girls Who Lead Global Bursary

We believe opportunity should not depend on income.

10% of every volunteer’s fundraising contributes to the Girls Who Lead Global Bursary, which fully funds a young woman (18–30, UK-based) from a low-income or underrepresented background to join the programme.

    Every cohort funds the next.
