    Description

Board of Directors Seeks New Members

Sojourn Chaplaincy has provided Multi-Faith Spiritual Care and Counseling for Zuckerberg San Francisco General since 1982. Our organization was founded in response to the HIV/AIDS crisis through an interfaith endeavor with the Episcopal Diocese of California. We started with a community chaplaincy program that educated and supervised volunteers to care for those affected by the epidemic. The community chaplaincy program grew to care for the entire hospital. Since then, we have developed a deep partnership with ZSFG, and have grown into a robust Spiritual Care department providing innovative, comprehensive spiritual care to the patients, families, and staff of ZSFG with volunteer and professional chaplains. We serve the hospital through clinical chaplaincy, our community program, etc. During the Covid pandemic, we piloted the Code Lavender program, which provides care to hospital staff and crisis intervention stress management related to complicated clinical experiences.

Sojourn is a 501(c)3 organization. We are committed to serving the marginalized, including all people in SF, especially migrants, the undocumented, LGBTQ populations, people seeking reproductive healthcare, people dealing with substance use issues, other populations without health insurance, victims of violence and trauma, etc. Equity and justice are vital components of our mission, which calls us to provide innovative and comprehensive spiritual care for all those in need.

    Job Description

We are currently seeking new members for our board of directors.

The board of directors of Sojourn Chaplaincy has a legal and ethical responsibility to ensure that the organization does the best work possible in pursuit of its goals. The BOD believes in the organization's purpose and mission and will act responsibly and prudently as its fiscal and effective stewards.

    Board members are responsible for:

    • Strategic Governance: Partner with the Executive Director to provide high-level oversight and mission-aligned decision-making to ensure the organization's long-term health.
    • Community Advocacy: Serve as an ambassador, sharing the Sojourn story to build visibility and partnerships within the San Francisco community.
    • Active Stewardship: Commit approximately 5 hours per month to board meetings, committee work, and organizational health.
    • Resource Development: Lead fundraising efforts and provide a personally significant annual gift to support our vital programs.
    • Ethical Leadership: Act as a responsible fiscal steward while adhering to our professional Volunteer Code of Ethics.

Board members commit to serving one 3-year term. No more than three consecutive terms are allowed.

Sojourn’s board is an active, spirit-filled bunch who are dedicated to our mission and rooted in innovations in justice-centered spiritual care. Come join us today!
