    Only two VOLUNTEER slots are available each cycle, making this a competitive and highly sought‑after opportunity.

    🕒 VOLUNTEER Expectations

    Hours & Schedule

      • 28+ hours per week
      • Monday through Friday
      • Occasional flexibility for special events or facility needs
      • Hybrid field/branch experience

    Primary Location

      • Elara Caring – San Antonio Branch
      • Travel to local partner facilities and patient homes (ride‑along style) included

    đŸ‘©â€âš•ïž Field & Interdisciplinary Exposure

    VOLUNTEERS will work closely with multiple hospice disciplines to understand the full continuum of care:

      • Licensed Social Workers
      • Chaplains
      • Registered Nurses
      • Activity Coordinators
      • Hospice Volunteer Coordinator
      • Bereavement team (as available)

    This exposure is designed to give interns a comprehensive understanding of hospice care, patient needs, family support, and interdisciplinary teamwork.

    ⭐ Core Internship Responsibilities

    Hospice Volunteer Coordination

      • Recruit, interview, screen, and train volunteers
      • Assist in tracking compliance, hours, and regulatory documentation
      • Support onboarding, coaching, and volunteer retention
      • Learn CMS hospice volunteer standards
      • Promote Elara Caring’s mission of dignity, comfort, and compassionate care
      • Support the Hospice Foundation 501c through fundraising and building awareness

    Resident Activities Support

      • Help plan and lead recreational, social, and therapeutic activities
      • Support monthly activity calendar creation
      • Set up, facilitate, and clean up after activities
      • Build meaningful rapport with residents
      • Encourage engagement, participation, and social connection
