Palliative Arts Volunteer
Patient and Family Support volunteers comfort patients by providing holistic services in the following modalities:
- Pet Visits - The use of pets to provide comfort, peace and well-being. Pets must be evaluated and certified by an approved certification organization. Some breed exclusions apply.
- Guided Meditation The use of guided meditation helps to focus and clear the mind using a combination of mental and physical techniques.
- Reiki - The use of energy therapy techniques to promote relaxation, comfort and create a sense of peacefulness. Reiki training offered for Patient and Family Support and Bereavement Support volunteers.
- Caring Touch- The use of gentle massage techniques designed to help promote deep relaxation and to promote relief from pain/discomfort.
- Licensed Massage Therapy - The use of hands-on techniques delivered by Florida licensed massage therapists to promote relaxation and reduce pain.
- Music - The use of music as a tool, gift or opportunity to bring peach and comfort. Musicians may perform for patients or share musical interests with patients via music CD's or iPods.

Volunteer Orientation is a 3 hour training session for individuals interested in learning more about Empath Health’s volunteer opportunities.
Patient/Family Support Training consists of 6 hours of training for individuals interested in providing caring support to Suncoast Hospice patients and families. Empath Health Volunteer Orientation is a prerequisite.
