    Description

    Archivist and assistant to Archivist

Purpose of the Position: Your archival work will help us take the important initial steps in preserving and cataloging the artwork of Mississippi and Florida artist Reuben Hale (1927-2018). It will play a key role in helping us to set a strong foundation for The Artwork of Reuben Hale, Inc.’s art archives; and be in step with our mission to research, preserve and ultimately share Reuben Hale’s artworks, teachings and life story with the public.

Responsibilities and Duties: The two immediate and critical projects for the interested archivist(s) are:

    (1) To take stock of and document a personal book library.

    (2) To scan hundreds of historical photo slides of artwork.

Qualifications: For photo slide scanning, it will be helpful to have a technological aptitude, and stamina for longer projects. Scanning is done in very high resolution and is very slow.

For either project, it is important that you are someone who has a respect for and will take special care in preserving and handling historical items.

This could be a great fit for anyone interested in building on skills and experience in areas of being an art archivist, curator, historian, librarian, or photographer.

And if you are a student or alum of Palm Beach State College–where Reuben Hale was an art teacher and department and division head during “The Golden Years of the Fine Arts at PBCC”– that would only be a bonus to us!

If you are volunteering in relation to a school project, we will be more than happy to work with your instructor in order to make the most of the experience.

Commitment Expected: Hours per week and day will depend upon the candidate’s availability. We estimate both projects may take several months.

Training: In-person guidance and training with the scanner will be provided.
