Outcome School | Volunteer, Non-Governing Advisory Role

Location: Los Angeles-based organization; virtual participation welcomed

Time Commitment: Approximately 4 meetings per year, plus occasional project-based support

    About Outcome School

Outcome School is a Los Angeles-based nonprofit workforce platform that helps underserved youth build practical technology skills and move toward internships, jobs, and long-term economic mobility. Through its Learn → Build → Intern → Job model, Outcome School provides free, cohort-based training in pathways including Software Engineering, AI Engineering, UX/UI and Product, Cybersecurity, Game Development, and Robotics Engineering.

    Role Summary

Outcome School is seeking mission-aligned professionals to serve on its Strategic Advisory Council, a non-governing group of trusted advisors who provide expertise, strategic insight, and connections that help strengthen the organization’s programs, partnerships, and long-term growth.

This council is designed for leaders who want to make a meaningful contribution without assuming board governance responsibilities. Advisory Council members will help Outcome School sharpen strategy, expand opportunity for students, and strengthen the systems needed to scale responsibly.

    Purpose of the Council

Strategic Advisory Council members serve as a resource to Outcome School’s leadership team by:

    • providing strategic guidance on growth, partnerships, and program quality
    • offering perspective on workforce trends, employer expectations, and youth opportunity
    • making introductions to partners, employers, funders, and community stakeholders
    • helping leadership pressure-test ideas and identify risks, gaps, and opportunities
    • supporting Outcome School’s mission to help underserved youth access tech internships and jobs

    Areas of Expertise Sought

Outcome School welcomes advisors with experience in one or more of the following areas:

    • technology hiring, engineering, product, design, AI, cybersecurity, or related fields
    • workforce development, apprenticeships, internships, or job placement
    • curriculum design, instructional strategy, or project-based learning
    • youth development and student support, especially for underserved communities
    • community partnerships, school partnerships, and referral networks
    • employer engagement and internship pathway development
    • nonprofit growth, fundraising, or philanthropy
    • finance, operations, and organizational scaling
    • data, evaluation, and outcomes measurement
    • lived experience that reflects the backgrounds of the young people Outcome School serves

    Key Responsibilities

Advisory Council members are expected to:

    • attend quarterly advisory meetings of 60 to 90 minutes
    • review brief pre-meeting materials and come prepared to advise on priority questions
    • provide thoughtful feedback to the CEO and leadership team
    • make strategic introductions where helpful
    • support special initiatives between meetings on an occasional basis
    • serve as ambassadors for Outcome School’s mission and growth

    How the Council Functions

The Strategic Advisory Council is non-governing. Members do not vote on organizational matters, supervise staff, approve budgets, or act as fiduciaries. Instead, they function as strategic thought partners to leadership.

    The council typically operates through:

    • 4 formal meetings per year
    • 1 annual strategy-focused session in place of one quarterly meeting when needed
    • occasional follow-up conversations or targeted support between meetings
    • separate meetings from the Board of Directors, with periodic coordination through leadership and a board liaison

    Ideal Candidates

The strongest candidates are people who can do at least one of the following well:

    • open doors to employers, partners, and funders
    • improve the strength and relevance of the program model
    • help Outcome School scale with discipline, quality, and sustainability

We especially welcome candidates who bring both professional expertise and a strong commitment to expanding economic opportunity for underserved youth.

    Why Serve

This is an opportunity to help shape an emerging workforce platform that is building clearer and more equitable pathways into technology careers. Advisory Council members will have the chance to contribute their expertise to a mission-driven organization working at the intersection of youth opportunity, workforce development, and economic mobility.
