    Description

Voice for the Animals Foundation (VFTA) is a nonprofit animal advocacy organization based in Santa Monica, CA. Our Working Cats® Program places cats who are not suited for traditional adoption — often feral or semi-feral — into working environments like warehouses, farms, stables, breweries, and businesses where they can thrive while providing natural rodent control. It's a win for the cats, a win for the businesses, and a win for reducing euthanasia in shelters.

We are looking for one dedicated volunteer to own the outreach side of this program — connecting with businesses and property owners throughout the Los Angeles area, building relationships, and finding the right homes for cats who need a different kind of family.

    What You'll Do

    • Identify and reach out to potential Working Cats® placement sites — warehouses, farms, stables, breweries, garden centers, and other businesses in and around Los Angeles
    • Communicate with business owners and property managers by phone and email to explain the program, answer questions, and assess fit
    • Coordinate with VFTA staff to match available cats with approved placement sites
    • Follow up with placement sites after adoption to ensure cats are settling in well
    • Maintain organized records of outreach contacts, placements, and follow-ups
    • Help spread the word about the Working Cats® Program through your own networks and community connections

    Skills & Experience

    • Based in or around Los Angeles — knowledge of the local business community a plus
    • Warm, confident communicator on the phone and in writing — you enjoy talking to people and making a pitch
    • Organized and detail-oriented — able to track multiple contacts and follow-ups without things slipping
    • Basic computer skills — email, Google Workspace, spreadsheets
    • Genuine love of cats and commitment to reducing shelter euthanasia
    • Previous outreach, sales, community organizing, or customer relations experience a plus but not required

    What You'll Gain

    • Outreach Manager credit on VFTA's website and organizational acknowledgments
    • Hands-on nonprofit program management and community outreach experience — directly applicable to careers in animal welfare, community organizing, nonprofit development, and sales
    • The satisfaction of directly placing cats into safe, permanent working homes — every placement you make is a life saved
    • Letter of recommendation from VFTA leadership upon completion of a successful volunteer term
    • A close working relationship with VFTA's team and a window into how a dedicated animal advocacy nonprofit operates

Your Impact: Every cat placed through the Working Cats® Program is a cat who might otherwise face euthanasia in an overcrowded shelter. Your outreach is what makes those placements happen. This is one of those rare volunteer roles where you can count, in real numbers, the lives you've changed.

To apply: Tell us a little about yourself, why this role speaks to you, and any experience you have with outreach, animals, or the Los Angeles community. Applications reviewed on a rolling basis — we'd love to hear from you.
