    Description

    Position Overview

    The Volunteer Teen Science Café Facilitator leads engaging, informal science discussions and events designed for teens. This role supports the planning and facilitation of interactive sessions where young people explore STEM topics, meet scientists and professionals, and develop curiosity, critical thinking, and communication skills.

    The facilitator creates a welcoming space that encourages dialogue, hands-on learning, and youth voice.

    Key Responsibilities

    Program Facilitation

    • Plan and facilitate monthly Teen Science Café events.
    • Introduce guest speakers and guide interactive discussions.
    • Support hands-on activities, demonstrations, or experiments.
    • Encourage teen participation through questions and small-group conversations.

    Youth Engagement

    • Foster a safe, inclusive, and respectful environment.
    • Encourage diverse perspectives and open dialogue.
    • Support teens in building confidence in asking questions and sharing ideas.
    • Promote continued interest in STEM learning and careers.

    Event Coordination Support

    • Collaborate with program staff to coordinate speakers and topics.
    • Assist with event setup, materials preparation, and cleanup (if in-person).
    • Help promote events through schools or community networks.
    • Track attendance and provide feedback for program improvement.

    Qualifications

    Required:

    • Interest in science, technology, engineering, math, or science communication.
    • Strong communication and facilitation skills.
    • Ability to engage and connect with teens (ages 13–18).
    • Commitment to creating an inclusive environment.

    Preferred:

    • Background in STEM, education, youth development, or public engagement.
    • Experience facilitating group discussions or workshops.
    • Experience coordinating events or working with guest speakers.
