Volunteer Social Media Director

Volunteer Role Overview
The Volunteer Social Media Director provides strategic guidance and leadership support for WOCOTM’s social media presence. This role helps shape high‑level content direction, brand voice, and campaign alignment while collaborating with staff and volunteers who execute day‑to‑day posting.
This is a volunteer advisory and support role, designed to complement—not replace—paid staff functions.
Key Responsibilities
Strategy & Direction (Advisory Focus)
- Provide strategic input on social media goals, messaging, and audience growth
- Help align social media efforts with WOCOTM’s mission, values, and campaigns
- Offer guidance on platform selection, content themes, and storytelling approaches
Content Oversight & Collaboration
- Review and provide feedback on drafted social media content (as needed)
- Support campaign planning for events, programs, and awareness initiatives
- Collaborate with staff, interns, and volunteers to ensure consistent messaging
Mentorship & Support
- Mentor volunteer social media team members when applicable
- Share best practices, tools, and trends in social media and digital engagement
Performance Insight
- Assist in reviewing basic engagement metrics and identifying opportunities for improvement
- Offer recommendations rather than managing analytics or reporting independently
Qualifications
- Passion for nonprofit work, social justice, and community empowerment
- Experience with social media strategy, digital marketing, or communications
- Strong understanding of brand voice and audience engagement
- Ability to collaborate respectfully with staff and volunteers
- Reliable, organized, and able to commit agreed‑upon volunteer hours
Preferred (but not required):
- Nonprofit or advocacy communications experience
- Experience mentoring or advising teams
- Familiarity with accessibility and inclusive communications practices
