    Description

    DISASTER CYCLE SERVICES (DCS)

    DISASTER HEALTH SERVICES (DHS) RESPONDER

    Be the prescription for disaster recovery!

    • Help those impacted by disasters with their healthcare needs.
    • Provide direct healthcare at mass care shelters.

    Key Responsibilities:

    • Provide hands-on care for shelter clients to include (but not limited to) assistance with daily living, would care, incontinence care, and assistance with functional needs.
    • Offer health education, health assessments, and determine if higher level care is needed.
    • Assist client to replace medications, durable medical equipment, and/or consumable medical supplies. This function can be performed virtually, from home or work via phone and Internet.
    • Advocate for client healthcare needs and support maternal and child needs, as necessary.
    • Attend regularly scheduled meetings and stay current on all training.
    • Additional related duties as discussed with supervisor.

    Commitment:

    • Hybrid (virtual/in-person) regional position covering Bucks, Chester, Delaware, Montgomery, and Philadelphia counties.
    • Time commitment varies, typically 5 hours per week. More active during disaster responses, especially when large-scale disasters require opening of mass care shelters.

    • Minimum age 18. Valid Driver’s License required for Divisional and National Deployments.
    • Current, unencumbered license in at least one of the following professions: Registered Nurse (RN), Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN), Licensed Vocational Nurse (LPN), Emergency Medical Technician (EMT), Paramedic, Medical Doctor, Doctor of Osteopathy (DO), Physician Assistant (PA), Nurse Practitioner (NP), or Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN).
    • Willingness to comply with current Red Cross and public health policies for in-person activities before, during, and/or after a disaster event, including ability to sign up for shifts at mass care shelters on consecutive days (shifts may be 8-12 hours).
    • Strong written and verbal communication skills; ability to read, write, and follow instructions in English.
    • Proficient in prioritizing multiple tasks in complex, rapidly changing and stressful situations.
