    Description

    Volunteer Gardener/Urban Farmer for Youth Program Faciltator

    Garden-to-Table Classroom Facilitator – W.I.S.E. Partnership

    Dates: Now through Wednesday, May 28, 2026 Days/Times: Tuesdays & Thursdays, 5:00 PM – 7:00 PM Location: Helen Moore Community Center, Detroit, MI Volunteers Needed: Up to 30 (ages 18+

    Role Overview: Facilitate garden and nutrition education for youth ages 9–17 using the Garden-to-Table curriculum. Facilitators follow a provided syllabus covering vegetable planting, pollinator plants, soil conditions, and growing zones and culminating in students planting their own raised garden beds.

    Responsibilities:

    • Follow the session syllabus and engage youth in hands-on learning
    • Record attendance and document sessions through photos
    • Encourage youth participation and curiosity
    • Support scheduled visits from on-site gardeners and urban farmers who will serve as guest mentors

    Requirements:

    • Ages 18+; must be mobile and able to lift
    • Some gardening knowledge preferred
    • Must complete a background check prior to volunteering
    • Interest in continuing with the Rochester Community Garden after May 28 is strongly encouraged
    • Willing to work with youth ages 9-17
