    Description

    WELLNESS CLASS AMBASSADOR Overview:

Health Advocates offers weekly wellness classes in person at several locations in the community. Classes include Tai Chi, Chair Yoga, and Strength & Tone and are free of charge. The purpose is fitness and social connection. To this end, it is important welcome newcomers and answer questions about Health Advocates’ offerings. It is also important to provide a friendly environment for all participants. Ambassadors help us achieve these objectives.

    Roles and Responsibilities:

As a Wellness Class Ambassador, you will:

    • Select one or more wellness classes to attend on a weekly basis in consultation with Health Advocates’ Healthy Aging Program Coordinator.
    • Arrive 15 minutes in advance of the class.
    • Bring material including the roster and a pen to each class. From time to time, you may also be asked to bring printed calendars or other event flyers. Arrange with the Coordinator to get printed material or files to print at home in advance.
    • Welcome participants and collect attendance information. This includes checking names of returning attendees on the roster and printing names, emails, and phone numbers for new attendees. It is important to print the name of each attendee clearly and spell it properly (to help staff with recordkeeping).
    • Distribute Healthy Aging sign-up forms to new
    • participants. Encourage completion of the form prior to or just after class or
    • online at www.hafop.org.
    • Make announcements on behalf of Health Advocates for upcoming special events.
    • Share attendance information and new sign-ups with the Coordinator following each class via email.
    • Assist staff with outreach to regular participants if there is a last-minute change.
    • Alert staff to any issues that may arise during class.
    • From time to time as encouraged by staff, take photos of class.
    • If you are comfortable with this, encourage participants to connect after class. In the past, groups have gotten together for coffee, lunch, or to walk home.

    Requirements:

    • Ability to use email and an iphone or another type of smartphone.
    • Organized.
    • Comfortable meeting and speaking with new people.
    • Weekly commitment (except for illness, vacation, etc.)

    CULTURAL OUTING AMBASSADOR Overview:

Health Advocates offers opportunities for members to visit cultural and other sites in the New York City area approximately twice per month, free of charge. These outings are sponsored by individual donations and foundation support with the purpose of promoting social connections and providing participants with cultural activities that they might not otherwise access. To this end, it is important to spread opportunities to participate among different members, which is the reason we often only allow members to participate in one outing per month, and to ensure full participation so that we do not purchase any tickets that go unused. The Volunteer Trip Ambassadors will help us achieve these objectives.

Outings are typically scheduled on Tuesdays and Fridays, late morning or early afternoon.

    Roles and Responsibilities:

As a Cultural Outing Ambassador, you will:

    • Inform staff about free or low-cost cultural attractions and exhibitions that members may enjoy.
    • Serve as an Ambassador on outings of your choosing based on outreach from Health Advocates’ staff.
    • Call all members who have signed up for your designated outing to confirm participation two business days in advance. Call individuals on the waitlist to fill in for cancellations. Log results from calls in the designated sign up spreadsheet. This may be done from an office or home phone.
    • Attend the outing and check in with the venue as directed by staff.
    • Wait for participants at the designated meeting spot; if possible, reach out using your cell phone to confirmed participants who are not at the meeting spot on time.
    • Track attendance, no shows and cancellations and share this information with staff after the outing. This will require you to have access to the sign-up sheet, which you may print ahead of the trip. On the sign-up sheet, please also note the hours you spend volunteering for a trip (including any confirmation calls).
    • Take candid and/or group photos to share with staff after the outing.
    • Alert staff to any issues that may arise.

    Requirements:

    • Ability to use email and an iphone or another type of smartphone.
    • Organized.
    • Comfortable meeting and speaking with new people.
