    Description

    Role Overview

    The Nashville Oral History Interviewer plays a vital role in preserving the lived experiences, memories, and histories of Nashville residents. This volunteer will conduct recorded oral history interviews that document personal narratives connected to community life, legacy, culture, and historical moments. These interviews will contribute to a state and local archive.

    Key Responsibilities

    Conduct in person or virtual oral history interviews using provided guidelines

    • Build trust and rapport with interview participants

    • Ask thoughtful, open ended questions that allow stories to unfold naturally

    • Record interviews using approved audio or video methods

    • Ensure consent forms and documentation are completed properly

    • Submit recordings, notes, and metadata according to project standards

    • Maintain confidentiality and handle stories with care and respect

    Preferred Qualifications

    Strong listening and communication skills

    • Comfort engaging with people from diverse backgrounds and experiences

    • Interest in history, storytelling, journalism, or community preservation

    • Ability to remain neutral, respectful, and attentive during interviews

    • Basic comfort with recording technology or willingness to learn

    Training & Support

    Orientation and oral history interviewing guidelines provided

    • Sample questions and interview frameworks supplied

    • Ongoing support from project coordinators
