    Description

    Head of Programs & Impact

    Location: Remote (United States)

Commitment: Volunteer Executive Leadership Position (10–15 hours/week)

Reports To: Founder & Board Chair

    About The African Think Tank

The African Think Tank (TATT) is a rapidly growing nonprofit organization dedicated to fostering belonging and advancing the professional, entrepreneurial, and economic transformation of the African diaspora.

We connect Africans and friends of Africa through leadership, education, entrepreneurship, culture, and community, creating opportunities that strengthen individuals while building a more connected global diaspora.

As we continue our global growth, we are seeking a collaborative, visionary leader to join our Executive Leadership Team as our Head of Programs & Impact.

This is an opportunity to help build an organization that will serve generations to come.

    Our Leadership Philosophy

At TATT, leadership is not about individual ownership.

    It is about building people.

    Building systems.

    Building partnerships.

And building an organization that is greater than any one individual.

We are seeking leaders who find fulfillment not only in launching successful programs, but in developing other leaders and creating systems that allow the organization to thrive long after they step away.

Our Executive Leadership Team is guided by four core values:

    Trust

We build relationships grounded in integrity, transparency, and accountability.

    Belonging

Everyone deserves to feel seen, valued, and connected.

    Community

We achieve more together than we ever could alone.

    Diversity

We celebrate the richness of our cultures, experiences, and perspectives.

    Position Overview

The Head of Programs & Impact provides strategic leadership for TATT’s programming portfolio and is responsible for ensuring that every initiative delivers measurable impact while advancing our mission.

This leader will oversee the planning, implementation, evaluation, and continuous improvement of all organizational programs while building systems that position TATT for sustainable national growth.

Working closely with the Executive Director and Executive Leadership Team, this individual will help translate vision into measurable community impact.

    Key Responsibilities

    Strategic Program Leadership

    • Develop and execute TATT’s annual programming strategy.
    • Ensure all programs align with the organization’s mission and strategic priorities.
    • Identify opportunities for new initiatives that address the evolving needs of the African diaspora.
    • Develop annual goals, KPIs, and success measures for each major program.

    Program Management

Provide strategic oversight for TATT’s programming portfolio, including initiatives such as:

    • Culture Bridge
    • TATT Thrive
    • Career & Business Forums
    • Leadership Development
    • Educational Workshops
    • Youth Programming
    • Future initiatives approved by the Executive Team

    Responsibilities include:

    • planning
    • implementation
    • quality assurance
    • budgeting
    • volunteer coordination
    • continuous improvement

    Impact & Evaluation

One of the most important responsibilities of this role is helping TATT measure and communicate its impact.

    Responsibilities include:

    • Establish organizational program KPIs.
    • Design participant surveys and evaluation tools.
    • Develop impact dashboards.
    • Measure program outcomes.
    • Produce quarterly impact reports.
    • Provide program data to support grant applications and sponsor reporting.

    Volunteer Leadership

Recruit, mentor, coach, and support volunteer program leaders.

    This includes:

    • onboarding
    • leadership development
    • delegation
    • succession planning
    • volunteer engagement
    • accountability

Success in this role depends on leading through influence rather than authority.

    Cross-Functional Leadership

    Partner closely with:

    • Executive Director
    • Head of Fundraising & Partnerships
    • Chief Marketing Officer
    • Regional Directors
    • Membership Team
    • Finance Team

Ensure that programming, fundraising, communications, partnerships, and membership initiatives work together toward shared organizational goals.

    Operational Excellence

    Develop organizational systems including:

    • Annual program calendar
    • Standard operating procedures
    • Event planning templates
    • Program budgets
    • Volunteer manuals
    • Risk management plans
    • Reporting dashboards
    • Documentation standards

    Leadership Expectations

Members of TATT’s Executive Leadership Team are expected to:

    • Lead collaboratively across departments.
    • Build trust through transparency and accountability.
    • Communicate with professionalism and respect.
    • Support collective leadership decisions.
    • Develop future leaders.
    • Share information openly.
    • Build systems rather than dependence.
    • Demonstrate stewardship of TATT’s relationships, reputation, and resources.
    • Place the mission of TATT above personal recognition or competing organizational interests.

    Time Commitment

This is a volunteer executive leadership position requiring approximately 10–15 hours per week.

Because nonprofit work is seasonal, the time commitment may increase temporarily during major events, conferences, fundraising campaigns, or strategic initiatives.

    The role includes:

    • Weekly Executive Leadership Team meeting (1 hour)
    • Weekly one-on-one meeting with the Executive Director (30–60 minutes)
    • Monthly Program Team meeting
    • Regular collaboration with executive leaders
    • Oversight of volunteer program leaders
    • Attendance at major TATT events and annual leadership retreats, where possible

Successful candidates are proactive, organized, responsive, and able to balance executive leadership responsibilities alongside their professional careers.

    Qualifications

We’re looking for someone who brings both strategic thinking and a collaborative spirit.

    Preferred qualifications include:

    • Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree preferred.
    • Five or more years of leadership experience in nonprofit, education, healthcare, social impact, or community organizations.
    • Experience leading volunteers or cross-functional teams.
    • Strong project and program management skills.
    • Experience developing impact measurement frameworks.
    • Budget management experience.
    • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
    • Grant reporting or funder engagement experience is a plus.

    What Success Looks Like

    First 90 Days

    • Build relationships with program leaders and volunteers.
    • Assess TATT’s current programming portfolio.
    • Develop a 12-month program roadmap.
    • Establish standardized planning and reporting processes.
    • Identify opportunities to improve program quality and volunteer engagement.

    First 12 Months

    • Deliver a high-quality annual programming portfolio.
    • Launch quarterly impact reporting for the Board and funders.
    • Strengthen collaboration across the Executive Leadership Team.
    • Increase volunteer engagement and retention.
    • Build systems that support sustainable organizational growth.
    • Position TATT’s programming for expanded grant funding and national impact.

    Why Join TATT?

This is more than a volunteer opportunity. It is an opportunity to help shape one of the fastest-growing organizations serving the African diaspora.

As a member of our Executive Leadership Team, you will help build programs, develop future leaders, strengthen communities, and create systems that will impact generations to come.

If you are passionate about leadership, collaboration, innovation, and service—and believe in the power of the African diaspora to transform communities around the world—we would love to hear from you.
