The Day Worker Center seeks long term volunteers to teach beginner, intermediate and advanced English as a Second Language (ESL) classes to day workers. Volunteers are needed during the Tuesday or Friday class which takes place during the mornings (8:30 - 10:00 AM). Having some Spanish skills is an added benefit. Volunteers will also need to lesson prep outside of class times following the Center's ESL curriculum.
English as a Second Language (ESL) classes offered at the Center focus on improving the English speaking capacity of day workers so they can be successful at work and in their communities. Volunteer teachers prepare and deliver beginner and intermediate classes in contexts pertinent to the needs and interests of workers: workplace language, job skills, communicating with others, daily life, family, culture, and living in California and the United States. Spanish proficiency helps but is not a determining factor.
