As a hospice volunteer, you’ll learn:
• Patient communication and bedside presence
• Compassionate care and active listening
• How the hospice IDT team works together
• Real-life experience with charting, documentation, and professionalism
• The emotional side of healthcare and family support
A strong hospice volunteer reference letter can help strengthen applications for:
• PA Programs
• Nursing School
• Medical School
• Social Work Programs
• CNA/CMA programs
• Scholarships and healthcare internships
Volunteers provide companionship visits, conversation, music, games, reading, tuck-in calls, and support for patients and caregivers. Most visits are about 1 hour a week, and volunteers choose their schedule.
No medical experience needed. Training provided.

Here’s how to get started:
- Stop by the office Monday–Friday between 9:30 AM–4:30 PM to fill out a volunteer application.
- Meet with the Volunteer Coordinator to learn about available opportunities and ask questions.
- Complete onboarding requirements, which may include:
- • Background check
- • Drug screening
- • TB testing
- • Training and orientation
- Choose a volunteer role and schedule that works best for you.
✨ Volunteers can help with companionship visits, tuck-in calls, veteran support, office help, music visits, birthday programs, and more. Most volunteers visit about 1 hour per week.
