The Role
We are looking for a passionate and organized volunteer to serve as our Outreach Coordinator in Fort Lauderdale. This person will be the connective tissue between EmpowHERto and the schools, community organizations, and young women we exist to serve. You will not be managing spreadsheets in the background. You will be the person who gets a girl to show up, and that matters.
What You Will Do
Girl Recruitment
- Reach out to girls ages 13 to 21 in South Florida neighborhoods to share information about EmpowHERto programs.
- Distribute program information through schools, community centres, libraries, and social networks.
- Follow up with interested girls to support them through the application process.
- Track all outreach contacts and application status in our project management system.
School and Community Partner Outreach
- Identify and contact schools, youth organizations, settlement agencies, and community partners who serve our target population.
- Build and maintain relationships with partner contacts who can refer girls to our programs.
- Attend community events and tabling opportunities to represent EmpowHERto when applicable.
- Coordinate with the Programs team to ensure partner referrals are received and followed up on promptly.
Social Media Support
- Assist with sharing program content on Instagram and TikTok to reach girls directly.
- Engage with comments and DMs from interested applicants and route them to the right team member.
Reporting
- Provide a brief weekly update on outreach activity, new contacts, and any barriers or trends you are noticing in the field.
- Flag urgent needs or issues directly to the A2I Coordinator or Programs team.
What We Are Looking For
Must have:
- Genuine passion for girls and young women from underserved communities.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills in English.
- Comfortable reaching out to strangers, whether by email, phone, or in person.
- Organized and able to follow a system without being micromanaged.
- Based in Toronto with knowledge of the local community landscape.
Nice to have:
- Experience working with youth, nonprofits, or community organizations.
- Familiarity with Monday.com, Slack, or similar tools.
- Active on Instagram or TikTok and comfortable engaging with young audiences.
Time Commitment
- Hours per week: 10 flexible around your schedule.
- Duration: Minimum 6 month commitment, renewable.
- Schedule: Primarily self-directed with a weekly check-in with the Programs team.
- Location: Mostly remote. Occasional in-person events in Fort Lauderdale
What You Get
- Hands-on experience in nonprofit outreach, community engagement, and program recruitment.
- A volunteer reference letter upon successful completion of your term.
- Access to EmpowHERto's internal training materials, templates, and tools.
- A community of people who care about the same things you do.
- The genuine satisfaction of knowing you helped a girl find a door she did not know was open.
This is an unpaid volunteer position.
