    Description

Like foreign cultures? Become an English as a second language tutor!

The Literacy Council of Sarasota welcomes, values, and relies on the contributions of volunteers at all levels of our organization. Our dedicated and compassionate volunteers work with the support of paid staff to raise awareness of the importance of adult literacy, offer hands-on teaching through one-on-one and small group instruction and support to adults, and offer multiple options focused on adult learner needs and life demands. Our volunteers work to improve English literacy in our community and open doors to greater employment, and opportunities for upward mobility in your community.

Volunteers Needed: English as a second language (ESL) Volunteer Tutor

Volunteer Opportunity: Tutor educated, resilient, self-directed, and motivated adults in person, one-on-one, so they learn English speaking, listening, reading, and writing skills to navigate life and thrive in the United States.

Training: The Literacy Council of Sarasota provides in-person tutor training over (4) 4-1/2-hour workshops, providing you with all the information and resources you need to be a dynamite tutor!

Bring with You: Fluency in English and the desire to change lives in a meaningful way.

No Worries! No second language skills or previous teaching or tutoring skills are needed.

Time Commitment: Minimum two (2) hours per week plus lesson preparation time.

Ideal for: Individuals who enjoy learning about new cultures, looking to make a genuine difference in their community, people with flexible or demanding schedules, working from home, college students, or recently retired.
