    Description

    The British Charitable Society is a private foundation that helps British nationals in New England through emergencies by providing one-off relief and support. First established back in 1816, we work across the six states to support British citizens and those from the British Overseas Territories in crisis. We provide financial aid to ease the crisis and help plot a pathway through. But our value is more than just financial; we provide much needed care and support to those in need. That kindness alone can make the difference between despair and hope. To learn more, please visit www.britishcharitablesociety.org.

    The Role

    The Treasurer is a mission-critical volunteer who manages our everyday financial activities, ensures we remain in sustainable financial health, and that we have sound fiscal strategies for the future. Specific responsibilities include:

    • Managing the BCS investment portfolio and advising the Board on overall financial strategy and health;
    • Overseeing BCS’ financial administration and accounts, reviewing and enforcing internal financial procedures, and ensuring tax and state filings are timely; and
    • Serving on the Board that meets quarterly to oversee management, strategy and planning and generating financial performance and budget reports as needed.

    Suitable candidates for Treasurer will:

    • Demonstrate a keen interest in the purpose and mission of BCS, with kindness and compassion for those BCS assists;
    • Have prior accounting experience, ideally in a nonprofit setting;
    • Have strong links with, or knowledge of, the United Kingdom or its overseas territories;
    • Be welcoming and compassionate to all regardless of race, age, gender, sexuality, ability or religious beliefs.

    We are particularly interested in hearing from those with accounting or investment experience, ideally in a nonprofit environment, or early-career accounting professionals looking to gain nonprofit experience.
