Roll up your sleeves and help make the art happen! Gallery Assistants are the essential crew that transforms the BMCA gallery into a breathtaking showcase of art and flowers — and then carefully brings it all back down again. If you like being in the middle of the action and don't mind a good workout, this is your role.
The Black Mountain Center for the Arts has been the heart of the arts community in Black Mountain since 2000, and Art in Bloom is our biggest celebration of the year.
What You'll Do:
- Help floral designers unload, set up, and position their arrangements
- Move pedestals, supplies, and equipment throughout the gallery
- Keep shared spaces clean and organized during load-in
- Assist designers during breakdown and help reset the space for regular programming
- Distribute thank-you notes to floral designers (the best part!)
Requirements:
- Volunteer waiver and emergency contact form (completed before your shift)
- Attendance at the June 15 Volunteer Gathering is encouraged
You're a Great Fit If You:
- Are a hands-on, energetic team player
- Can lift up to 30 lbs. and stay active for several hours
- Are able to walk up and down three flights of stairs repeatedly — our elevator was damaged in Hurricane Helene and is awaiting replacement funding from the Town of Black Mountain
- Handle artwork and fragile arrangements with care and attention
Attire: Wear something comfortable and movable that you don't mind getting a little dusty. Closed-toed, supportive shoes are required — no sandals.
Location: Black Mountain Center for the Arts, 225 W State St, Black Mountain, NC 28711
