Thrifting with purpose. Strengthen Van Nuys.
RePurpose is Central’s community-powered thrift fundraiser in Van Nuys. Every dollar spent directly funds:
- Weekly food distribution serving hundreds of households
- Free adult English classes
- Community Garden/Garden Education
- Summer programs for children
- Back-to-School supply giveaways
- Holiday food distributions and Christmas support for low-income families
- Immigration Services
- So. Much. More!
RePurpose Hours (Open to Public):
Fridays: 1:00 PM – 6:00 PM
Saturdays: 10:00 AM – 2:00 PM
Volunteer Hours Available:
Fridays: 9:00 AM – 7:00 PM
Saturdays: 9:00 AM – 3:00 PM
(Flexible shifts available including other days — drop-in support welcome when coordinated in advance.)
Volunteer Responsibilities May Include:
- Sorting and organizing donated items
- Merchandising and display setup
- Assisting shoppers
- Light lifting and moving inventory
- Event setup and breakdown
- Supporting checkout and customer flow
Qualifications:
- Friendly, reliable, and community-minded
- Comfortable in an active, fast-paced environment
- Ability to stand for extended periods
Bilingual Spanish/English speakers especially encouraged to apply

Central Lutheran Church RePurpose is in an auxiliary building off Gilmore st.
Directions
Parking available in our small parking lot (enter via Gilmore at Tyrone Ave) or in our larger lot at Victory and Tyrone.

RePurpose is ideal for you if you:
- Have an eye for fashion, styling, or merchandising
- Love organizing, sorting, and creating order from chaos
- Enjoy engaging people and inviting friends to experience something special
- Want hands-on experience in community-based fundraising
What we especially need:
- Donation sorting and quality control
- Hanging, tagging, and moving inventory into curated sales areas
- Visual merchandising and display setup
- Friendly, confident volunteers who can help create an inviting shopping experience
Unicorn Level Volunteers (Yes, We’re Serious):
If you enjoy online marketing, Facebook Marketplace, or social selling — and are willing to help feature items midweek for pickup during Friday/Saturday event hours — we want you.
These skills directly increase fundraising revenue, and that translates into more food, more classes, and more programs.
RePurpose works best when volunteers treat it like a mission-driven event — not just a shift.
