    Description

    About The Joshua Wave

The Joshua Wave is a faith-driven nonprofit empowering Neighbors experiencing homelessness to pursue sustainable, dignified work—often through entrepreneurship and digital upskilling—on a path toward independent living in the Name of Yeshua. Our programs include Miller University (AI-enabled digital upskilling) and Thirst for Change (a vendor-style alternative to panhandling). We operate with a trauma-informed, person-first approach that centers dignity, agency, and safety.

    The Opportunity

We’re recruiting 1–2 volunteer Board Members to strengthen governance and scale impact. We especially welcome candidates who can serve as Treasurer (Finance Chair) or as a People & Culture lead (volunteer policies, safety, and onboarding). Other profiles (Program Impact/Data, Governance/Legal, Marketing/PR) are also welcome.

    Key Responsibilities (Board-Level)

    • Governance & Strategy: Participate in monthly board meetings (virtual) and help steward mission, risk, and organizational priorities.
    • Committee Leadership (based on seat):
      • Treasurer (Finance Chair): Oversee budget and cash forecasts; establish a simple monthly finance reporting cadence; support light internal controls; provide a short Treasurer’s report each meeting.
      • People & Culture: Establish volunteer role descriptions, onboarding, safety/ethics guidelines, and simple HR/volunteer policies suitable for a small nonprofit.
      • Program Impact/Data (optional profile): Help define 3–5 outcome metrics for Miller University/Thirst for Change and set up a lightweight dashboard.
    • Accountability & Learning: Review monthly packets (ED report, finance, minutes); support decision-making with discernment, data, and prayer.
    • Ambassadorship: Represent the mission with humility and professionalism; open doors for partnerships (no fundraising minimums required).

    Qualifications

    • Faith Alignment: Follows Jesus and is comfortable with prayer and Christ-centered decision making in a nonprofit context (non-denominational welcome).
    • Professional Expertise (one or more):
      • Treasurer: CPA/controller/CFO background or equivalent finance oversight experience; familiarity with nonprofit financial statements; comfort establishing basic internal controls.
      • People & Culture: Experience designing clear policies, volunteer/people processes, and safety/ethics practices in faith or nonprofit settings.
      • Program Impact/Data (nice to have): Defining KPIs, simple data collection, and dashboarding.
      • Governance/Legal or Marketing/PR (nice to have): Board governance familiarity, policy drafting; or brand/PR experience with regional influence.
    • Character & Approach: Trauma-informed, collaborative, confidentiality-minded, and eager to empower people with lived experience of homelessness.
    • Location: Colorado Springs, CO preferred (for relationships and events), but thoughtful remote candidates will be considered.
    • Lived Experience: We value proximity to the issue; individuals with lived or closely proximate experience are encouraged to apply.

    Time Commitment

    • Meetings: 1 board meeting per month (~60 minutes, virtual).
    • Committee/Project Work: ~1–3 hours/month, depending on seat and season.
    • Term: Standard board terms per bylaws; initial service begins upon board vote.

    What We Provide

    • A clear on-ramp: role description, a concise board packet, and a 90-day action plan tailored to your seat.
    • A collaborative, prayerful team that values both excellence and compassion.
    • Opportunities to shape innovative, scalable solutions rooted in dignity.

    Other Details

    • This is an unpaid, volunteer board role.
    • The Joshua Wave is incorporated in Delaware and operates primarily in Colorado Springs, CO.
    • No fundraising minimums. Conflict-of-interest disclosures and reference checks may be requested.

    How to Apply

Send a brief note with your resume or LinkedIn, preferred seat focus (Treasurer, People & Culture, or other), and a few sentences on your faith alignment and motivation to: josh@joshuawave.org.

Optional: include one tangible example (e.g., a sample finance packet you’ve built, a volunteer policy you implemented, or a simple KPI/dashboard you created).

Our Commitment to Dignity & Inclusion

We welcome applicants of diverse backgrounds who share our Christ-centered mission and a commitment to person-first, trauma-informed care for Neighbors experiencing homelessness.
