About Us:
Beneath and Beyond is a nonprofit committed to advancing educational equity for underserved and minority high school students through early intervention, mentorship, advocacy, and support. Our work centers around amplifying student voice and addressing systemic barriers within schools.
Position Summary:
We are seeking a passionate and strategic Advocacy & Outreach Lead to launch and lead our "Beyond Barriers" Advocacy Initiative. In this role, you will help surface, document, and challenge systemic inequities in education by gathering local stories, identifying recurring issues, and driving collaborative solutions with schools.
Key Responsibilities:
Lead the "Beyond Barriers" Initiative
Develop and implement advocacy campaigns targeting systemic issues such as dual credit access, biased tracking, and discipline disparities.
Facilitate issue identification by listening to students, families, and school stakeholders.
Data & Story Collection
Collect qualitative and quantitative evidence (surveys, interviews, testimonials) to document inequities.
Identify patterns and build clear, compelling case studies.
Outreach & Relationship Building
Engage directly with school officials, counselors, and community members.
Present findings and proposed solutions with a constructive, partnership-based approach.
Create Replicable Advocacy Models
Document successful advocacy outcomes and shareable strategies to expand to other schools and districts.
Help position Beneath and Beyond as a go-to partner for student-centered policy change.
Support Communications
Work with the team to create public-facing reports, advocacy toolkits, and social media content around issues and wins.
Ideal Candidate:
Passionate about educational equity and systemic change
Experience with community outreach, advocacy, organizing, or school policy (a plus, but not required)
Strong writing, interpersonal, and storytelling skills
Ability to analyze problems and communicate solutions with clarity and empathy
Comfortable speaking with students, families, and educators
- Open to college students, graduates, those in a gap year, or pursuing graduate school.
- Self-starter with a collaborative mindset and problem-solving approach
