    Marketing & Communications Volunteer

Collaborative Community Housing Initiative (CCHI) & CCHI Commons

    July 2026

About Collaborative Community Housing Initiative (CCHI)

Collaborative Community Housing Initiative (CCHI) is a family-founded 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to creating inclusive housing and vibrant communities where adults of all abilities can live independently, build meaningful relationships, and thrive.

Founded by families seeking innovative housing solutions for adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities, CCHI spent years researching successful inclusive communities across the country, engaging stakeholders, and developing a person-centered model that promotes independence, belonging, and lifelong community connections.

Today, CCHI is proud to be opening CCHI Commons in Highland Park, Illinois—a first-of-its-kind cooperative apartment community designed to foster inclusion, choice, and connection. The Commons brings together residents with disabilities in a welcoming environment featuring accessible apartments, shared gathering spaces, wellness amenities, arts programming, educational opportunities, and partnerships with leading nonprofit organizations.

Our vision extends beyond one building. CCHI is committed to developing additional inclusive communities throughout Illinois and beyond, demonstrating that thoughtfully designed neighborhoods can strengthen individuals, families, and entire communities.
